About the role

Civil Enforcement Officers play a vital role in ensuring a smooth traffic flow, maximising available parking spaces and enhancing safety throughout the borough by ensuring compliance of on-street parking contraventions. The role also entails ensuring the efficient running of the Council’s pay and display car parks and the on-street pay and display areas. Successful candidates could be deployed from any of our bases within the borough.

 

About You

Delivering parking enforcement through a directly employed in-house team, Haringey Council are seeking individuals who possess sound knowledge and experience of parking enforcement legislation, with excellent customer care skills, which is essential for this role. Applicants must be able to demonstrate good people skills, often in challenging situations to ensure that the council is represented in a professionals and helpful manner.  As an ambassador for the council applicants must be good team players with the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide accurate written and verbal advice.

 

Working 36 hours per week, applicants must be prepared to work in all weathers on a flexible rota basis which will include weekends and bank holidays.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. An enhanced disclosure check with the DBS will be undertaken.

  • 12 months’ experience of working face to face with the public 

  • 12 months’ experience of working as a Civil Enforcement Officer 

  • Communicating clearly and tactfully when dealing with the public 

  • Dealing with customers who may be upset, angry or aggressive 

  • The ability to write clearly and legibly when making manual records

  • Be able to use hand held computers to input, check and update information 

  • Basic numeracy 

  • Be physically fit and able to patrol on foot in all weather conditions, and be able to work weekends and evenings on a regular basis
