Head of Service, Children in Care in Placements

Haringey Council is seeking a strong leader to manage and develop the Children in Care and Placements service. The council has been on a significant journey of improvement, with the ambition to enable every child and young person to have the best start in life. Haringey is a diverse and fast-changing borough with a variation of complex social work needs. The service at Haringey Council has a higher number of children in care compared to the national average.


The Head of Service for Children in Care and Placements will be driving improvement within key service areas: Court Team & Young People in Care, Young Adults Service 16+ and the Fostering and Adoption service. You will work alongside the senior leadership team and Assistant Director of Safeguarding and Social Care to drive strategic improvement. The Head of Service will be accountable for to the performance of the Deputy Heads of Service, Team Managers and Social Workers.

As the lead for children in care, you will demonstrate a high level of drive, resilience, along with the ability to thrive within a complex environment, foster effective teamwork, help others achieve their maximum contribution and set standards for continuous improvement of best practice.
