The Young Adults Service invites applications from qualified and child-focused social workers at Senior Practitioner level. The service play’s a vital role in continuing the child’s journey when cases are transferred from the children’s team for longer term care leaving service and transitioning to adulthood.

We are a busy and supportive service working with looked after children and young people leaving care aged 16 to 25 years old. We also manage the referral and assessment for unaccompanied minors arriving in the borough aged 16 + and ensure a robust response to age assessment requirements.

The ideal candidate will need to be a resilient and authoritative practitioner who places children and young people and their welfare at the heart of your practice. You’ll manage the referral and assessment for newly arriving UASC’s, which includes child and family assessments and age assessment, and the re-assessment of returning care leavers. The post also manages the service’s emergency duty service which ensures our children and young people can be assisted in a timely manner in the event of unavaliability of their allocated worker and responded to. The duty service places a critical role in ensuring all care leavers who need immediate support have their voices heard, responded to and recorded consistently. You will need to liaise effectively and efficiently with both internal and external partners to ensure that children and young people are safe. Therefore, your written and verbal communication would be second to none and you would be used to providing high quality, evidence based assessments and the application of signs of safety.

We’ll also expect you to support your Team Manager in developing the team, e.g., potentially supporting and mentoring ASYE and less experienced colleagues, offer 1-2-1 supervision to personal advisors and day -to day management of the duty team and receptionists and help to implement and drive a high performance culture.

In return, we will give you the time and support you need to make a difference. Alongside our generous learning and development offer, we offer a competitive salary package which includes a recruitment & retention payment and relocation offer (subject to eligibility, terms and conditions). We are actively working to reduce caseloads across the service and provide mobile working technology so that you spend more time with children and young people, doing what really matters.

In addition to meeting the minimum criteria outlined in the Person Specification, you will need to answer a screening questions below as part of our shortlisting process.

Closing Date: Thursday 5th September 2019
