Job Title: Connected Communities Housing Needs Officers

Over several decades, many people have chosen to start their life in the UK in Haringey, with 45% of the population born abroad and over 1 in 20 arriving within the last two years. We are proud of our strong history of diversity and multi-culturalism, but recognise that migration is not without challenges.

Haringey Council is setting up an ambitious two-year programme, funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, to support new migrants to settle more quickly and successfully into our borough. A range of different interventions will work with individuals and families who are new to Haringey, giving them support and advice on housing, employment, childcare and parenting; and helping them to play a positive part in the wider community. The programme will also focus on building up English language skills and support networks.

We are looking for a highly motivated Housing Needs Officer to work alongside Environmental Health Officers and Homes for Haringey’s Housing Needs staff. Your role will be to provide early interventions in relation to the prevention/relief of homelessness, to help residents improve life chances through the provision of broad and holistic advice, which encompasses employment and welfare benefits to achieve the best outcomes

Applicants will need to have a sound understanding of local housing policy, housing legislation and appropriate experience in its implementation. You will be expected to deliver via advice surgeries creating your own frontline caseload as well as undertaking outreach work and site based investigations.

You will be working both directly through council services and alongside community sector partners. You will be committed to delivering results through teamwork and collaboration across a range of different frontline services. You will need to have good communication skills, be capable of building relationships, encouraging co-operation and acting as the link between tenants and other services, both within and outside of the Council. The role will also require the provision of performance data in order to support this role within the project and to evidence the projects achievements against assigned outcomes.

Closing Date: Sunday 16th September 2018

This post is being offered as a secondment opportunity or a fixed term contract until 31st March 2020.
