Job Title:       Apprenticeships Coordinator

Grade:          PO2

About the role

Haringey is a diverse, vibrant London borough with many challenges but also huge potential and opportunities. Haringey Council is keen that, whilst working with partners to identify and address the challenges our residents and borough faces, we realise the full potential and capabilities of our people so that there is fair access to opportunities, both within Haringey and beyond.

Our long term plan for the borough includes ensuring that, by 2030, we are a fully employed borough, by which we mean:

  • 75%      of Haringey’s working age population is in work
  • Residents’      full time earnings are in line with London averages for bottom quartile      and median earners
  • The      proportion of working age residents qualified to NVQ Levels 3 and 4 is      increased from 65% (2013 figures) to 70%

In line with these ambitions Haringey Council is keen to ensure access to and effective participation in employment and skills provision for all residents, with a particular focus on residents from disadvantaged communities. As part of this, the Council is keen to support more residents take up apprenticeship opportunities.

This role will lead the Council’s apprenticeship agenda, working with employers, residents and local partners to encourage the creation and take up of meaningful apprenticeship opportunities which support residents to learn new skills and get onto the career ladder.

About you

This is not going to be an easy challenge so your attitude is going to matter! You will be incredibly tenacious and resilient who is an exceptionally motivated self-starter, driven by a passion to make a lasting positive impact, no matter the challenges and obstacles.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, having worked extensively in collaboration with other agencies and be passionate about achieving excellent customer care whilst exceeding minimum performance targets.

Although previous employment support experience is not necessary, you will have experience of working with disadvantaged communities and possess a good understanding of some of the challenges our residents, particularly young people, may face in securing meaningful apprenticeship opportunities.

You will be an exceptional ‘people person’ who is able to both support and challenge as appropriate. You will possess a range of ‘people friendly’ skills, from being able to build trust and rapport with residents to motivating and encouraging some of our least confident residents. You will understand the importance of empowering people, providing them with the confidence and tools to support themselves rather than creating a culture of dependency. You will be very comfortable working in a high-paced environment, able to manage a challenging workload and competing priorities. You will also be targets driven whilst not losing sight of the bigger picture.

As an employer, Haringey Council is committed to developing its staff and offers a range of rewards and benefits.
