Employment Support Officer

About the role

The Haringey Employment and Skills Team (HEST) is a comprehensive employment support service for Haringey residents seeking employment.

As an Employment Advisor you will primarily provide a matching and screening service for residents seeking employment in the construction sector by providing information, advice, guidance, and support to the residents. Most crucially, you will support, empower and champion our residents in their journey to work by working in partnership with local developers and construction companies.

The support you provide will be tailored for each resident but may include support with job search, developing resident’s skills to write impactful CVs and job application forms and providing mock interviews. You will be joining a Team of four Advisors who are passionate about changing lives, one job at a time. You will also be involved in using your professional skills and networks to address barriers to work.

About you

The successful candidate will have experience of recruitment in the construction sector and will have a good knowledge of the constraints to employment people face and be creative in identifying solutions to this.

You will also have experience of managing, developing and supporting a caseload of jobseekers, providing encouragement, training, brokerage, and co-ordination of activities including development planning, effective monitoring and guidance that will ensure progression to employment, with an emphasis on movement toward sustained employment where appropriate and should be able to rapidly assume the role.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, having worked extensively in collaboration with other agencies and be passionate about achieving excellent customer outcomes.

Even though construction focussed roles will your main priority you will be expected to work with other employers and clients as determined by needs of the service

You will have:

  • A good understanding of the local and London labour market;
  • A great understanding of the recruitment needs of the construction industry;
  • Insight into the challenges faced by residents in securing employment;
  • Creative intelligence to find solutions to these challenges; and
  • An absolute belief in the assets and human capital/potential of each of the residents you work with.

This role is ideal for a great people person who is able to both support and challenge residents as appropriate. We are looking for someone who is able to build trust and rapport, motivate and encourage, empower and provide people with the tools rather than doing everything for the resident.

You should be able to work in a high-paced environment, manage a challenging workload and be someone who is very targets driven whilst not losing sight of the bigger picture.

As an employer Haringey Council is committed to developing its staff and offers a range of rewards and benefits. You can find more information on the ‘Working for Haringey’ page in the jobs and training section of our web site.
