We are looking for an Archivist to join our busy team based at historic Bruce Castle Museum on a permanent basis.


About Haringey Council

Haringey Council are looking for a committed, confident and experienced Archivist to manage, conserve and promote access to the historical archives and local authority records of Haringey. Reporting to the Curator and based at Bruce Castle Museum, the post will provide ideal opportunities for an archivist seeking variety and a new challenge in a customer-focused environment, promoting the importance of our heritage and communities in Haringey and delivering high quality services to the public.

The Archive collections include historical records of local, regional and national significance, concerning individuals, places, institutions and organisations within the borough as well as the borough council records.

 

Your New Role

  • You will be responsible for the professional management of organising, caring for and developing the archive collections, council records and resources concerning the history of the London borough of Haringey, including managing the public search room and its services.
  • You will support, advise and work with a range of community groups, organisations and researchers to access a range of archives and collections, from medieval manorial court records to local history resources and community-based documents of the present day, relating to Haringey.
  • You will work closely with the Museum’s Curator in the delivery of the combined museum and archive service at Bruce Castle in terms of its management, security and operations, its collections and programme delivery of learning events and exhibitions.


What you'll need to succeed 

  • You will have a post-graduate qualification in Archives and Records Management
  • You will have at least 2 years’ professional archives experience, including work in a public service environment and knowledge of working with local authority records, using cataloguing systems such as CALM and good knowledge of current legislation and standards for caring for archives.
  • You will have excellent communication, presentation and people skills and be able to manage your own workload efficiently.
  • You will have a proactive approach to working on your own or as part of a team.

 

The post is full time - 36 hours per week with regular alternate Saturdays working, and some evenings working or attending meetings.
