About the service/role

The COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing economic fallout has presented Haringey’s residents, businesses, and communities with significant and immediate risk.

As a Council we are proud of our response to this challenge so far. From delivering urgent food parcels to supporting our businesses, we have worked closely with our partners and the community to deliver agile, innovative solutions that deliver tangible outcomes for residents.

As we move to the next stage of the pandemic, the Council is determined to remain responsive to emerging issues whilst plotting a strategic course to mitigate widening inequalities, strengthen community resilience and improve the health and wellbeing of our residents.

The Policy Team play a critical role at the centre of the Council, providing strategic leadership on Council priorities and facilitating the design and development of evidence-based policy. This is an exciting time to join us as we seek to navigate a range of systemic issues with wide ranging implications for the local economy, public health and community engagement.

About you

We are looking for a creative, inquisitive problem solver with policy-making and research skills to join us as a Policy and Equalities Officer.

  • You will be a confident communicator, able to proactively build strong relationships with stakeholders and partners.
  • Be able to demonstrate an ability to work across a range of subject areas, learning quickly when required.
  • Prioritise collaboration and accountability in your approach to work, welcoming feedback and presenting constructive challenge when appropriate.
  • You will need to have good research, analysis and writing skills and be comfortable providing advice and support to senior colleagues. You will be politically aware, able to manage sensitivities in a professional and proactive manner.
  • Educated to degree-level, you will be able to utilise insight from diverse experiences, knowledge, and skills to deliver results for residents and the organisation.

Home Working

The role will predominantly be based at home, with the expectation that the successful candidate is available to work from our office in Wood Green up to two days a week, on days determined by the Head of Policy. The successful candidate will be provided with a laptop.
