This is a fixed term position funded for 1 year to deliver and complete the development of a specialised response to unaccompanied asylum seeking children and respond to a growing demand with regard to age assessments and response to Judicial Review.  

The Young Adults Service invites applications from experienced Team Managers.

We are a busy and supportive service working with looked after children and young people leaving care aged 16 to 25 years old and playing a vital role in ensuring positive futures. We also manage the referral and assessment for unaccompanied minors arriving in the borough aged 16 and over and ensure a robust response to age assessment requirements.

The ideal candidate will need to be a resilient, authoritative and an experienced Team Manager who places children and young people and their welfare at the heart of practice. You will need to have a proven ability to lead on services for adolescents and care leavers who are UASC.

The role will take on a strategic position in developing innovative and effective practice with unaccompanied minors on their arrival and journey through care. The role will require the post holder to ensure we have responded effectively to external changes, and makes efficient use of scare resources providing some monitoring oversight of the grant claim and reconciliation of data and performance.

The post holder will manage the referral and assessment for newly arriving UASC’s, and ensure development of model of good practice, embed clear procedures and training programmes for all YAS staff and ensure appropriate use of NRPF connect. You will have oversight of all UASC and Asylum Seeking children and provide case consultation, ensuring good practice has been embedded consistently and all our children are receiving good quality assessments whether child and family, age or human rights, and pathway plans.

You will need to liaise effectively and efficiently with both internal and external partners to ensure that children and young people are safe. Therefore, your written and verbal communication would be second to none and you would be used to providing high quality, evidence-based assessments, court statements and the application of signs of safety.

We are looking for a candidate with :

-          2+ years experience of leading work with Unaccompanied Asylum seeking children and age assessment at team manager level

-          Experience of change management, redesign and embedding new systems and enhancing practice.

-          Experience of working to very tight deadlines.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and a comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on successful applicants, including an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
