About Haringey

We are investing in creating a better borough for all our residents, and bettering the lives of children and young people in Haringey is our first corporate priority. We are located in the north of the capital with a population of approximately 250,000 people and a growing population of 0-19 year olds. We are a diverse and fast-changing borough and tomorrow’s leaders, artists and innovators are busy growing up here.

Haringey is transforming its services for children and young people, and have already made exciting, innovative changes as we strive for excellence in all we do.

In short, we’re a council with high ambitions; a place to work that is full of energy and focus. Our teams have passion, integrity and commitment, and people join us, do so as they see Haringey is a learning organisation, and the people that work here strive for continuous improvement in their practice, aiming high to ensure we provide outstanding outcomes for our children.

We offer a great place to develop a career that is yours to own.

About the Service

The Disabled Children’s Team forms part of the Integrated Service for children who have Special Educational needs and Disabilities. The service works collaboratively with a wide range of professionals from health services, schools and the voluntary sector. Safeguarding disabled children is central to all activity in the service and this process is supported by the Threshold of intervention for disabled children endorsed by Haringey’s LSCB.

We provide a social work service for children and young people from birth to eighteen who have a wide range of permanent and substantial disabilities, including children who have complex health needs. The team covers all areas of statutory social work practice, which will include referral and assessment, children in need, child protection, and children in care, including court work, leaving care / transition. We work closely with the short break services to ensure that children and their families are supported where ever possible at home.

We are an ambitious service with strong leadership and clear lines of support, providing services which are child focused, innovative and of a high quality. We are dynamic and comprise of staff from a diverse background, skill set and experience base. We have a strong commitment to providing learning and development opportunities, and, encourage thinking that is creative and ‘outside of the box’. Young people and parents have a central role in shaping our service provision.
