£33,282 - £35,991

 Employment Advisor (full time)

PO2 £33,282 - £35,991 per annum

About the role

Over several decades, many people have chosen to start their life in the UK in Haringey, with 45% of the population born abroad and over 1 in 20 arriving within the last two years. We are proud of our strong history of diversity and multi-culturalism, but recognise that migration is not without challenges.

Haringey Council is setting up an ambitious two-year programme, funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, to support new migrants to settle more quickly and successfully into the borough. A range of different interventions will support individuals and families who are new to Haringey, giving them support and advice on housing, employment, childcare and parenting; and helping them to play a positive part in the wider community.

The Haringey Employment and Skills Team (HEST) is a comprehensive employment support service for Haringey residents (16yrs and over) seeking employment. Our team of Advisors are passionate about changing lives, one job at a time.

As an Employment Advisor you will be responsible for identifying, developing and improving migrant residents’ chances of employment by taking that person along the journey into employment, providing information, advice, guidance, support and knowledge.

As part of this role, you will use your professional skills and networks to address barriers to work. You will monitor customer progress while providing support to improve their confidence and skills. From helping write a CV, looking for vacancies or providing mock interview scenarios, a flexible, imaginative and personalised approach to casework will be used to give migrant residents the best possible chance of success.

These roles will last for two years and will include co-location within voluntary and community sector organisations.

About you

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, having worked extensively in collaboration with other agencies and be passionate about achieving excellent customer outcomes.

You will have:

  • A good understanding of the local and London labour      market,
  • insight into the challenges faced by migrant      communities in securing employment,
  • creative intelligence to find solutions to these      challenges; and
  • an absolute belief in the assets and human      capital/potential of each of the residents you work with.

You will also have an understanding of issues faced by migrant residents from A2 and A8 countries.

This role is ideal for a great people person who is able to both support and challenge migrant residents as appropriate. We are looking for someone who is able to build trust and rapport, motivate and encourage, empower and provide people with the tools rather than doing everything for the resident.

You should be able to work in a high-paced environment, manage a challenging workload and be someone who is very targets driven whilst not losing sight of the bigger picture.

As an employer Haringey Council is committed to developing its staff and offers a range of rewards and benefits.

Closing Date: 26th September 2018

Interviews: 10th October 2018
