Haringey Works is the Local Authority’s in-house employment support service and plays a vital role in supporting the Council’s commitment to provide access to skills, development, training and sustainable jobs for residents.

The Team supports residents at all stages of their career through a range of techniques and strategies including information advice and guidance, CV writing, one to one case work, interview preparation and job search support.



About the role

The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) approach has proven to be a successful delivery model for supporting people experiencing mental ill health secure meaningful employment. This is a new role which will pilot a similar approach to the IPS model for young people aged 18+ at risk of violence.

Based within Haringey Works the specialist employment advisor will engage with a range of services already working with young people at risk to identify, engage and then provide intensive job-focused support so that more young people will secure meaningful and sustainable employment, providing a route out of potential criminal and possibly violent activity.

The specialist employment advisor will provide personalised, intensive support to a small caseload of young individuals, empowering and enabling them to make positive decisions to fulfil their true potential. This role will help these young people realise their full human capital.

This role is ideal for a great people person who can both support and challenge young people at risk as appropriate. We are looking for someone who can build trust and rapport, motivate and encourage, empower and provide young adults with the tools rather than doing everything on their behalf.

About You

The ideal candidate will need to understand the evidence based IPS model piloted in Public Health and adapt this approach to develop a young people at risk employment support model and deliver this employment support service to young people at risk .

You will need to be willing to try new approaches to employment support and have personal and direct experience of current recruitment practices.

It will be essential to have a good understanding of the criminal justice sector and how young people at risk may interact with these as well as a good understanding of the challenges faced by young people at risk of crime and violent activities.

The ideal candidate must have absolute belief in the assets and human capital/potential of each of the young adults you work with.
