About the Service
The Safeguarding and Support Service takes cases after assessment where it is identified that longer term support is required. We work with children and young people subject to child protection and child in need plans, as well as initiate proceedings in the family courts where this is required in order to keep children and young people safe. We are a fast paced and supportive service and will expect you to be a resilient and authoritative leader and practitioner who places children and young people and their welfare at the heart of your practice. The service is led by a service manager who works to the head of children in need of support and protection. The service consists of 5 safeguarding teams, each led by a team manager managing up to 6 social workers, including 1 social in their ASYE. We believe in developing our practitioners to be their best, and offer a competitive package which includes recruitment and retention payments (subject to terms and conditions), as well as learning and development opportunities. You will be a qualified social worker with a minimum of 5 years’ post qualifying experience, preferably in a similar setting. Whilst previous experience as a team manager is desirable, we actively consider social workers or senior practitioners looking to step up into a more senior role. You will be highly organised and able to deliver to deadlines, and able to work independently whilst maintaining a team and whole service focus. Your knowledge and understanding of complex child safeguarding, alongside your strong grasp of relevant legislation will be second to none. Thus, you will be confident chairing complex multiagency meetings such as core groups and strategy meetings where required. You will have evidence of ongoing professional development, as well as either experience or a sound understanding of social worker and/or student supervision, and budget management.
You will be responsible for the day to day management of the work allocated to your team, ensuring that this is completed to the highest standards and with the child’s welfare central to decision making. You will develop your team members by ensuring they receive regular, reflective case and personal supervision, and that service and corporate priorities are met. You will ensure that HR policy and procedure is adhered to, including robustly and effectively addressing any performance, capability, sickness absence or similar issues. In all cases, you will ensure that concise and accurate records of your management decision making and direction is evidenced.
Above all, you will be committed to helping the service manager and your fellow team managers to ensure the service provides a forward thinking, responsive service which meets the diverse needs of its service users, by contributing to service strategies, policy and procedures.
