Local Area Co-Ordinator

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a real difference in Haringey?

Haringey is an exciting, fast-changing and exceptionally diverse borough. Of our population of 255,000, about two-thirds are from ethnic minority backgrounds with over 100 languages spoken. Haringey is one of the most deprived boroughs in the country and its stark health inequalities provide substantial public health challenges. But alongside this, Haringey has vibrant and engaged communities and many committed community and voluntary sector services working across the borough.

What is Local Area Co-ordination?

Local Area Coordination (LACs) is an innovative approach to supporting people with disabilities, mental health needs and older people (and their families/carers) to achieve their vision for a good life, to support people to be part of and contribute to their communities, and to strengthen the capacity of communities to welcome and include people.

You will need experience of working alongside and supporting individuals from the above target groups and an understanding of asset-based community development. You will have an understanding and practical experience of advocacy and supporting people to plan and build on or develop their own strengths and assets. You will be a creative thinker who is able to work in innovative ways and you must be committed to working along-side people to help them find solutions to improve their outcomes.

Haringey Council are looking to recruit 4 LACs to work alongside residents within the following areas; Tottenham Hale, Bruce Grove, Noel Park and Tottenham Green.
