Public Health Commissioner will lead on the healthy school’s agenda, underpinned by health in all policies approach to ensure prevention and early intervention is addressed throughout the council and key partner organisations.

The post-holder will be part of the Public Health team and will also work closely with other Council service areas and partner agency functions/services in order to influence the wider determinants of health and reduce health inequalities in the borough.


About us

Haringey Council Public Health team is responsible for the development and commissioning of programmes to improve the health and wellbeing of people living and working in Haringey with a particular focus on reducing health inequalities.

The post holder will join the team at an exciting time in the development of our planned public health programme of work, contributing towards achieving the priorities set out in the borough plan 2019-23.

We are a dynamic and highly motivated team that is well embedded within the adult and health directorate of the local authority, with excellent working relationships across the Council, the local CCG and wider partners. The leaders of the borough are firmly committed to public health and the principles of early intervention and prevention, making this an excellent place to work in collaboration to achieve genuine improvements for our residents.


About you 

The successful candidate will bring energy, drive and innovation, be a self-starter to make a difference, working through the challenges to improve outcomes for children and young people in Haringey. This role would ideally suit a candidate with experience of working on the wider determinants of health, excellent understanding of the children and young people’s pathway, with strong networking and influencing/negotiating skills. Individuals with commissioning experience will have an advantage. The post holder will need to develop a good understanding of the context of services in the borough which impact on health and health inequalities.

The post holder will provide support to the Senior Commissioner and work in co-operation with other colleagues within Public Health, council directorates, the local Clinical Commissioning Group, the NHS and voluntary sector and will need to establish and maintain a wide range of working relationships.
