This is an exciting time to join a committed in-house legal team, which is delivering an efficient and high quality legal service to enable the council to deliver its Borough Plan priorities. We are looking for confident, motivated people with strong communication and influencing skills to be part of our excellent and friendly legal team. 

 

About the Role

These are exciting times to be a Planning Lawyer within the Council, given the Council’s continuing priority to deliver high profile regeneration and new build housing projects across the Borough. Work involves attending Regulatory Committee, Planning Sub-Committee and Major Sites Project Management meetings and engage directly with Development Management (DM) officers on a daily basis with regard to Section 106 discussions and legal advice with the aim of facilitating development.

About You

You will be a solicitor, barrister or CILEX, ideally with at least 2 years recent PQE in planning law in the UK who will work with experienced specialist property, planning and regeneration lawyers and a fast paced, dynamic, forward looking client DM team which is seeking to enable development.

A Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.
  • Post qualification experience of conducting caseloads relating to planning, highways and regeneration matters within a public sector setting.
  • Experience of advocacy in an Inquiry, the Magistrates or County Courts or other relevant courts and Tribunals, to include planning appeals at both hearing and public inquiry stage. Experience of advising on regeneration schemes and more complex public inquiries, High Court appeals and judicial reviews in the context of planning would also be useful.

  • Experience of attendance at, and advising, committees.

  • Experience of supervision of staff.

  • Experience of delivering legal advice in a partnering environment.

  • Experience of contributing to the design and implementation of business planning and strategy development in a legal environment.
